U.S. Grant Award to Jordan Landmine Victims’ Capacity Building Program

Amman – The Department of State has awarded a $606,000 grant to the Polus Center for Social and Economic Development, to improve Jordan’s national mine action victims’ assistance capacity.
The Department’s Bureau of Political-Military Affairs/Office of Weapons Removal and Abatement is providing funding to the Polus Center to establish and equip a prosthetic workshop in Northern Jordan and provide prosthetic equipment to medical and rehabilitation facilities. The Polus Center will also create small business development and educational and vocational training opportunities for landmine victims.
The Polus Center for Social & Economic Development supports community-based programs that promote social and economic opportunities for people with disabilities and other vulnerable groups.
Since 1996, the United States has provided over $19.75 million in humanitarian mine action assistance to Jordan.
