U.S. Ambassador Attends an INJAZ Master Class Session in A Public School

October 15, 2009

Amman - U.S. Ambassador R. Stephen Beecroft paid a visit to Al Shefa’ Bint Aouf School for Girls in Jabal Al Natheef on October 15.  During the visit, the Ambassador met with the school principal and attended an INJAZ Master Class session where students learn to set up and run their own businesses.

Discussions focused on INJAZ’s role in Al Shefa' school and other public educational institutions in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.  Ambassador Beecroft commended the students for seeking to develop their skills and build a better future for themselves.  He stated: “As we celebrate 60 years of partnership with Jordan, the American people are proud to work with the Jordanian government and private sector to prepare students to pursue their dreams and become community leaders.”

The INJAZ program is one of the many examples of USAID’s investments in Jordan providing opportunities for youth.  To date, INJAZ has reached 350,000 Jordanians, with a target to reach an additional 650,000 in the next five years. It began its activities in Jordan in 1999 with funding from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).  The program provides students aged 14-22 with business and economic skills, gives them the opportunity to gain hands-on experience running a small business, and provides new employment options beyond the traditional public sector. It is designed and implemented as a partnership between the public and private sectors.  INJAZ programs are offered to students during school hours across Jordan in 160 schools, and 26 universities and community colleges.
