U.S. Embassy Donates a Tool Truck to the Jordan Customs Department

Amman— Economic Counselor Joyce S. Wong from the U.S. Embassy presented a tool truck to Jordan Customs Deputy Director General Mahmoud As'ad in a ceremony today, at the Customs Enforcement Directorate today.
The tool truck, valued at $130.000, contains tools and equipment that customs can use to inspect vehicles that are suspected of concealing contraband in hard to reach spaces. It will strengthen Jordan Custom’s ability to detect, deter, and interdict the illegal shipment of weapons or other unauthorized items.
During the ceremony, Economic Counselor Wong said, “We are dedicated to working with the Government of Jordan to improve Jordan’s export control system and helping stem the proliferation of items which could be used in weapons of mass destruction or their delivery systems.” She noted that the Government of Jordan has made significant progress and continues to enhance its export control system.
Deputy Director General of Jordan Customs Department Brigadier General Mahmoud As'ad commended the donation as an effective tool to improve and reinforce the institutional capacity of Jordan Customs. He also expressed the Department's full commitment to cooperation with the U.S. Embassy in tribute to the genuine partnership between Jordan and the United States.
The U.S. Embassy’s Export Control and Related Border Security program, which donated the tool truck to Jordan Customs, assists the Government of Jordan by providing expertise, equipment, training, and software to improve the export control and border security system.
