U.S. Ambassador Inaugurates U.S. University Fair in Amman

November 1, 2009

Amman - U.S. Ambassador Stephen Beecroft opened the U.S. University Fair at the Sheraton Hotel on Thursday, October 29. This fair, which was organized by the U.S. Educational Group (USEG), provided an opportunity for Jordanian students to meet with representatives of thirty American universities and explore diverse opportunities for higher education in the United States.

In his opening remarks to Jordanian youth at the fair, Ambassador Beecroft emphasized that there is no better place than the United States for higher education.  The Ambassador added: “Jordan is an ideal place to recruit students for study in the U.S. -- 70% of the population is under the age of 35, and Jordan has an excellent educational system and very proficient English speakers.” Ambassador Beecroft added: “Offering opportunities to study in the U.S. is a priority for President Obama, who said in his speech in Cairo that education and innovation will be the currency of the 21st century.”

Headed by Joseph Humadi, the USEG is committed to assisting young men and women of the Arab world in pursuing careers in higher education.   The USEG is led and staffed by Arabic-speaking educators, trained and experienced both in Arab world and in the United States,  provides cross-cultural expertise for Arab students seeking 21st century skills through international education.
