How to Apply for a Visa

The U.S. Embassy Amman has introduced new non-immigrant visa appointment scheduling and payment procedures.  You may now fill out a DS-160 online application, pay your $160 US non-refundable Machine Readable Visa (MRV) fee, and schedule an appointment at www.ustraveldocs.com.  All appointments must be made through www.ustraveldocs.com.  Please visit www.ustraveldocs.com before paying the MRV fee.

This State Department web page has more information and instructions on how to use the DS-160.

Important Reminder: If there is no activity for 20 minutes or more in the process of completing this online application, your session will expire and all entered data will be lost.

Visa applicants in Amman must submit their DS-160 application for all visa classes except Fiancés and Investors.

Visa Types for Temporary Visitors has more information on specific visa categories, including what you need to complete before the visa interview.

How to Apply for a Visa:

Please follow the detailed instructions available at www.ustraveldocs.com.

NOTE: If you paid your non-immigrant visa fee at Cairo-Amman Bank before July 31, 2013, you may make your appointment by emailing Support-Jordan@ustraveldocs.com.  If you paid your fee after that date or have not yet paid, please follow the detailed instructions at www.ustraveldocs.com.

The Day of the Interview:

  • On your appointment day, kindly arrive 15 minutes earlier than your scheduled appointment time and bring the following documents:
  • The DS-160 confirmation page.
  • If your photo did not upload to the DS-160, bring one passport photo that meets these photo requirements.
  • Your passport, valid for at least six (6) months from the intended travel date, and all prior passports.
  • The Machine Readable Visa (MRV) receipt printed from www.ustraveldocs.com.
  • All other documentary evidence that demonstrate your ties to an overseas residence (employment letter, bank documents, letters of invitation, property deeds).
  • If you are the spouse of an applicant, please bring your original marriage certificate.
  • Note: If you are between 14 and 80 years old, we will request a scan of your fingerprints.  Please avoid the use of henna before your appointment.

Note: MRV fees for petition-based visas are $190.00USD, which includes a differential fee.  The MRV fee should be paid at any Cairo-Amman Bank.

On the day of your interview, please come to the Embassy prepared to pay these fees. Reciprocity fees are paid only on issuance.

Important Reminders:

Scheduling your appointment: After you have completed your DS-160 and printed your Confirmation Page, you must go to www.ustraveldocs.com and schedule an appointment. It is your responsibility to schedule your appointment well in advance of your intended travel.  You may also complete the DS-160 at www.ustraveldocs.com.

Requesting Special Accommodation: If you are physically disabled and require special assistance on the day of your interview, please e-mail Support-Jordan@ustraveldocs.com with your passport number and appointment date, so we can make the appropriate accommodation to provide you with the necessary.

Filling out the DS-160: If the DS-160 application asks: "Have you attended any educational institutions other than elementary school?", this refers to middle school ("Almadrasa Al idaadiyya"), high school ("al madrasa Althanawiyya") and any University degree you have obtained.

If the DS-160 asks you to list the countries you have traveled to in the past five years, you MUST list all places you have traveled to outside of Jordan in the last five years. This includes Syria, The West Bank, Egypt, etc.

Please note that failure to properly fill in these answers will require you to refill out the application and you must then obtain a new interview date/time, leading to processing delays for your application.
