How to Apply for a Visa
 

Visitor visa applicants may apply now using the new DS-160.  This form replaces the DS-156, DS-157, and DS-158.  Visit this State Department web page for more information and instructions on how to use the DS-160.

Important Reminder: If there is no activity for 20 minutes or more in the process of completing this online application, your session will expire and all entered data will be lost.

Starting March 1, 2010, visa applicants in Amman will be obliged to submit their application on the DS-160 for all visa classes except Fiancés and Investors.

General Instructions for all Visitor Visa Applicants

Important Reminder: Please remember to follow all instructions below. In particular note that the DS-160 on-line application system and Scheduling an Appointment are separate links. After you have completed your DS-160 and printed your Confirmation Page, please return to this webpage and click on the link below to schedule an appointment. It is your responsibility to schedule your appointment well in advance of your intended travel.

If you are physically disabled and require special assistance on the day of your interview, please e-mail responseamman@state.gov with your passport number and appointment date, so we can make the appropriate accommodation to provide you with the necessary .

If the DS-160 application asks: "Have you attended any educational insitutions other than elementary school?", this refers to middle school ("Almadrasa Al idaadiyya"), high school ("al madrasa Althanawiyya") and any Univesity degree you have obtained.

Also if the DS-160 asks you to list the countries you have traveled to in the past five years, you MUST list all places you have traveled to outside of Jordan in the last five years. This includes Syria, The West Bank, Egypt, etc. Please note that failure to properly fill in these answers will require you to refill out the application and you must then obtain a new interview date/time, leadin to processing delays for your application.

Non-Immigrant Visa Application Process

  1. Refer to the Frequently Asked Questions prior to starting your on-line nonimmigrant visa application DS-160 form for useful tips and information
  2. Complete an Electronic Visa Application Form (DS-160) for nonimmigrant visas online. Please complete the application fully and in English.  If answering the question on prior travel, include Syria and Lebanon.  If answering the question on educational institutions attended, include high school.
  3. Note: The DS-160 requires you to import a digital photo into your application (Photo Submission Guidelines).
  4. Save your Application before Submitting
  5. Print out the DS-160 “Confirmation Page”
  6. Schedule your visa appointment via our online appointment system.
  7. Pay the non-refundable Machine Readable Visa (MRV) application fee of JOD 113.6 JD ($160) in advance of your interview any branch of the Cairo-Amman Bank.
  8. Do not fax any supporting documents to the Consular Section
  9. We recommend that applicants apply at least ninety (90) days before the planned date of travel.

The Day of the Interview:

On your appointment day, kindly arrive 15 minutes earlier than your scheduled appointment time and bring the following documents:

  • The DS-160 confirmation page.
  • If your photo did not upload to the DS-160, bring one passport photo that meets these photo requirements.
  • Your passport, valid for at least six (6) months from the intended travel date, and all prior passports.
  • The Machine Readable Visa (MRV) receipt from Cairo Amman Bank.
  • All other documentary evidence that demonstrate your ties to an overseas residence (employment letter, bank documents, letters of invitation, property deeds). 
  • If you are the spouse of an applicant, please bring your original marriage certificate.
  • Note: If you are between 14 and 80 years old, we will request a scan of your fingerprints.  Please avoid the use of henna before your appointment.

Note: MRV fees for petition-based visas are $190.00USD and require a $30.00 USD differential fee to be paid the day of the interview. On the day of your interview, please come to the Embassy prepared to pay these fees. Payment can be made with cash in Jordanian dinars, U.S. dollars or via credit card.
