Lost/expired mutilated legal permanent resident cards

The renewal of legal permanent resident cards is under the authority of USCIS only.  There is currently no USCIS presence in Jordan.  The U.S. Embassy in Amman has no authority to renew or replace a legal permanent resident card.  This can only be done through the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigrant Services (BCIS formerly INS).   If you have been out of the U.S. for less than one year, the Embassy may be able to issue a transportation letter to facilitate your return to the US.  However, this is not guaranteed nor should this be assumed.  An appointment must be scheduled via an e-mail to: Amman-IV@state.gov.

You will need to present the following documentation:

  • Your passport to show your exit and entry stamps to the United States
  • If you have a newly issued passport, then you need to bring your old passports.
  • The police report (in case of lost or stolen legal permanent resident card and /
  • r passport)
  • Newspaper notification of lost item (if available)
  • All the documentation (or copies) related to your legal permanent resident card
  • If you do not have your passport (lost or stolen), you must bring solid proof that you have been outside the United States for less than one year.
  • Three pictures according to specifications (photo requirements).
  • Fee required when the transportation letter is ready to be issued.
