Educational and Cultural Exchange
The Cultural Affairs Office at the U.S. Embassy in Amman aims to promote mutual understanding between Jordanians and Americans through various cultural and academic exchange programs.
Throughout the year, we host American experts to Jordan to conduct seminars, workshops, cultural and academic exchanges, and lectures. Our programs cover a wide range of interests including economics,
international relations, democracy building, American studies, environment, law, commerce, and the arts. We also organize American fine arts exhibits and public performances by American artists, musicians, and theater groups.
The Cultural Affairs Office manages two types of U.S. government-sponsored exchange programs, the International Visitors Leadership Program (IVLP) and Citizen Exchanges. The International Visitor Leadership Program annually brings to the United States approximately 5,000 foreign nationals from all over the world to meet and confer with their professional counterparts and to experience America firsthand. The visitors, who are selected by American Foreign Service Officers overseas, are current or potential leaders in government, politics, the media, education, labor relations, the arts, business and other fields. Citizen Exchanges involve professional, youth, and cultural programs through grants with non-profit American institutions, including community organizations, professional associations, and universities. This partnership benefits thousands of Americans and foreign visitors taking part in exchanges at the grassroots level, both in the U.S. and abroad. Every year, hundreds of Jordanians are nominated by the U.S. Embassy to participate in IVLP and Citizen's Exchanges. Please check the U.S. Embassy website regularly for announcements about exchange opportunities.
